Washi Tape--A Woman's Duct Tape: 15 ways to use it

Updated: May 29, 2021

Here are 15 creative ways to start using washi tape. (This content includes Amazon affiliate links.)

15. Pull together a gift with it. I like to match up my cards and gifts to my packaging, but that isn't always easy. I pick similar colors, then use washi tape to pull everything together. You can outline your envelope, make a little wrap-around bow on the gift bag, and then put the same tape on the packaging of the gifts.

14. Create Greeting Cards. Use your tape to spell out Hello, the birthday girl's name, or to create your own kind of art.

13. Decorate your calendar, journal, or planner. I like to decorate my calendar for each month. I use washi tape, and go through magazines to cut out inspirational quotes and pictures. I use a glue stick to put them all around the blank spaces, and it makes a nice collage to look back on when the year is over.

12. Make a geometric art piece for your wall.

11. Spiral-wrap your boring pens. Or alternate colors on one pen. They're much funner when you need to loan someone a pen, sign your name, or write a check.

10. Make your computer keyboard cute. Cut out small squares of different colored washi tapes and give your computer keyboard a makeover. The easiest way to do this is the lay the strip on the key and then use an exacto knife to cut the other side. This can look really pretty, but only do it if you know home row and won't need to look at the letters. If you just want a splash of color, only do the space bar, or certain keys.

9. Make a chevron pattern or striped pattern phone case. Take a plain phone case and use your favorite colors and patterns to make it whatever you want.

8. Do the same thing on small memo pads. Match your wrapped pen to your little notebook.

7. Cover push pins in washi tape. Use flat round push pins.

6. Cover a blank coaster. You can make coasters that match your home decor, or you could make a bunch of four, tie them up with some string and give them as a gift.

5. Cover clothespins and use them as chip clips.

4. Use it around a plain picture frame.

3. Make twist ties. You could use these for tying up treats in cellophane bags or for keeping your bread bags closed at home. All you have to do is cut two long strips of washi tape, the same size, lay thin wire across the sticky part of the tape and then sandwich the other piece of tape on top. Cur both ends to even the tie out if needed.

2. Washi tape your bike. Cover the whole bike or accent the front and back wheel covers.

1. Make magnets. If you use your fridge for organization, having more magnets could be a game changer. You can get blank magnets here and cover them in washi tape.
