5 Overlooked Ways to Refresh Your Space

5. Your Computer

When you clicked on this article, you might have thought that by space, I only meant, living space--your home, but wherever you spend time, it's important that you make it your own. A lot of us whether we work

online due to the pandemic, or like to get on Facebook and see what family and friends are up to, spend a lot of time on our computers. Personally, I like to add some flare.

Browser Colors and Wallpaper. I like to change my browser colors and my wallpaper according to my mood. Right now I have a baby blue browser and these calming, fluffy-looking clouds.

But you could choose whatever speaks to you, something complicated, simple, or motivational.

Laptop Stickers. Let's not forget the outside of your laptop. Here are some adorable and girly stickers that you might like! (Each sticker is a link to where I found it.)

3. Your Closet.

Does this closet look familiar? Nope. Not everyone has an impeccably organized walk-in closet and if you are among them, thank your lucky stars. But there are things you can do to refresh a small space, besides fighting yourself over whether or not you should donate something you haven't, but intend to wear when the right occasion comes up. Take some of the stress off yourself by picking this corner of your life up.

Start with shelving. In my closet, for example, there was unused space above the clothing rack. I put up shelves there AND an easy to put-together shoe shelf BEHIND my clothes. Once you have all your shoes in a row, and unless your dog drags one away, it will make getting ready much easier!

Put Off-Season Clothes in Storage. This can be tricky, especially if you live in Michigan like me and get sun and snow on the same day. Keep a winter coat out until Spring ends to be safe. Otherwise, your off-season clothes need to take up space in a small closet. Buy some plastic bins or put them out of sight elsewhere until you need them again.

Colorize the Closet. This one's for the hyper-organized girl, or someone who wants a little extra help with styling themselves. When you put all the reds, all the pinks, all the yellows, etc, together, it will start to give you outfit ideas you hadn't thought of before. It can help you see what you are actually working with, what you might lack and need to add, and more simple options for when you are ready to leave the house.

2. Your Car. I spend about an hour a day in my car. Personally, I hate driving. I wish I had my own chauffeur, someone like Joe in The Princess Diaries who would show up whenever I needed a ride. But I can still make my car pleasant to be in, and these are the ways I have done that.

A Steering Wheel Cover. A cute steering wheel cover can cheer your car up, and it is very practical for the days when putting your hands on the wheel would feel like putting them on a hot stove. The cover to the right is one that I made myself from some floral fabric I bought. If you don't have time to sew your own, I found these on Walmart.com that I love!

A Scent. Another inviting thing to have in your car is a scent. There are so many options. You can get an air freshener, obviously, but you could also use a wax melt in the warm months. You can poke holes in a jar lid, put the wax in the jar and set it under your seat. Some people put laundry detergent sheets under their seats. My favorite scent is Yankee Candle's Pink Sands, and I alternate between that and Fresh Scents sachets. The sachets are my favorite because you get three in a pack, so you can put the other two in different rooms of your home.

A Plant. Okay, not a real plant, but maybe one of those hanging pot macrames or a dancing flower bobble head for the dashboard.

2. Your Purse. I like to be the person who has everything people need in her purse. I like to have the bandaids, the nail clippers, and the mini hair brush. I spent a year using a too-small purse and it was one of the most

frustrating times of my life. If you have a tiny purse now, just stop struggling and go find a bigger and better one.

Look For Compartments. Having separate zippered compartments comes in handy. You can hide nylons and feminine products in one compartment, put hand sanitizer and a pen and paper in another without the sanitizer opening and spilling on everything. Trust me, an open tote is nothing but trouble.

Your Wallet. Find a wallet that fits ALL your cards and

potentially more cards. If it were me, I would try to find that unicorn wallet that holds the cards, but that I don't have to wrestle with to actually slide the cards out. Another pro-tip for organization, take a photo of everything in your wallet in case you ever lose it. Then you'll know what you need to replace.

  1. Your Bedroom. Your bedroom is your last stop at the end of every day. Make it a place of relaxation and a place that really reflects your true self. Below are some easy and overlooked ways to do that.

Printable Wall Art. There is a new trend in wall art that is really made for people who like change and easy ways to decorate their walls. This trend is printable wall art. You can buy a digital file for about $5.00 or a set of files for more, print it from home or take it to a place that prints photos and have it printed in any size you want. When you purchase one of my prints, you receive a 5" x 7", an 8" x 10" , a 11" x 14", a 16" x 20", and an 18" x 24". Afterward, you can find a beautiful frame and pop it up on your wall, or set it up on a table. Each image below is linked to where you can find it on my Etsy shop.

A New Blanket. Sometimes putting new art up on your walls and switching your blanket for a new design can breathe life into the room. I love to have a few different types of blankets to switch out if I get bored of my bedding. I have throw blankets for different holidays--blue snowflakes for Christmas, a lip print for Valentine's Day. You can find these for as low as $5-20 at almost any store that sells homegoods. You don't need to change ALL your bedding to make it look interesting again. It could even be a change of sheets or a unique pillow.

Fixing the Things You Have Ignored. This last one is more personal to the reader. Make a list and try to bring to light the things that you overlook, that make your living space less comfortable. Do you need a lamp by your bed? Could you use a larger bedside table? What are creative ways you could reorganize to make the most of your space? Would you consider a loft bed with storage underneath? Are you in love with your decor?

I hope this blog helped some of you learn new ways to refresh your living spaces! Let me know in the comments what your decor plans are. I hope you'll stay tuned for more blogs, diys, and giveaways.
